Meet Serena, the star of our 2015 holiday look book. A long-time friend of Smoke + Ash, I met Serena when she came into the store and tried on a pair of jeans. She not only looked stunning in the jeans, but had a personality that was equally captivating.
We got to spend quality time with her, shooting her in her apartment for our look book, and I took the opportunity to get to know her better.
You are a busy woman and always seem to have a lot going on. Tell me about the different pursuits you’re involved with.
So during the week, I work full-time at a digital advertising agency. On the weekends, I bartend at CODA Nightclub at Bloor and Bathurst, but some weekends I take off to DJ events at Bambi's, Wrongbar, or even CODA. I've just started working on music production, so I try to do that as much as I can between all that.
What is the best part of your day?
During the week, it has to be coming home to my two roommates (who are also my best friends - we've lived together for over 5 years) and my boyfriend - then making dinner together and watching chopped. On the weekends, its dancing with friends in my living room until the wee hours of the morning.
When you have time to yourself, what is your favourite thing to do?
Bike around the city, browse vintage shops, go digging for records... I've also just gotten into baking so I try to bake tasty treats for my pals!
What inspires you in your daily life? Or who?
People doing great things. My friends definitely inspire me - they're all beautiful, intelligent, young, creatives working hard to succeed with fashion, music, events, and photography which really pushes me to work hard and put effort into the things I care about. Alexa Chung/Taylor Lashae/Kiko Mizuhara also inspire me endlessly as well.
What are the top three songs on your holiday party playlist?
I'm not too certain on the holiday playlist, but here are a few songs that are always in rotation for me at a gig or just with friends: Kahn by Mark E, Eyes by Clio, and Love at First Sight by Kylie Minogue.
