With winter in full-swing those cold winter days, sickly complexions and decreased motivation can really put a damper on your mood. One foolproof way to combat winter blues is to dream of summer escapes and plan for dreamy sun-soaked adventures. This is how I fell in love with Chefchaouen.
Chefchaouen is located in the riff mountains just inward of Tangier in Northern Morocco. As you walk through the medina French, Spanish, Arabic and English are all spoken over a backdrop of powder blue accented buildings and picturesque landscapes. The air is fresh and hikes through the riff mountains are highly recommended as the possibility of running into a waterfalls is to be expected and jaw-droppingly gorgeous.
The blue wash of colour is said to have been introduced in the 1930’s by Jewish refugees who considered the rich blue colour a symbol of the sky. It is also said that the colour caught on as to repel mosquitoes. For whatever reason, the blue colour attracts travellers and admirers alike who dream of simplistic doors and archways which are one of the most popular aspects of the quaint mountain town.
If you’re anything like me and the thought of another couple months of winter is making you want to hide away forever, trying planning your next trip to Chefchaouen, Morocco. No filters needed.
