Stop Wasting Time

As we all know, we each have the same number of hours in a day as Beyonce. So as much as we like to complain that we don’t have time, when it really comes down to it time management is less about finding more time, and more about wasting less of it. So if you care to join us, here are some tips we're trying.

Get out of Bed

Yeah, we know, you’re not a morning person. Who is, really? But one sure-fire way to get more done during the day is waking up - and actually getting out of bed - earlier. Imagine all the things you could do in the 30 - 60 minutes you spend laying in bed scrolling through social media before you get in the shower! Even if it’s just little things like making breakfast instead of stopping for coffee (and wasting time in line) on the way to work, it all adds up!

Plan Ahead

If you’re anything like me, the last 5 - 10 minutes before leaving the house are spent running back and forth collecting all the little things you need for the day but always forget: phone, wallet, keys, laptop charger, a fork for your lunch. The natural solution here is obviously to pack your bag the night before. Feel like upping the ante even more? Check the next day’s weather and put an outfit aside in advance. It’s common sense, saves so much time, and we should all already be doing it. No excuses.

Outsource Some Willpower

We know that we shouldn’t stop mid-task to check Facebook, Instagram, or any of our other favourite Internet black holes, but willpower is hard. Thankfully, the very thing that tempts us away from work can also help us to stop. Desktop and web-based apps like StayFocused and SelfControl let you either block websites completely or set time limits for viewing, stopping the YouTube video downward spirals before they even begin.
